Ted Steinke has been a photographer for over 30 years. He has a B.S. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin.  He retired on 1/3/06 after more than 33 years with the Federal Government. He formerly specialized in videography of deer, elk and other wildlife, having videotaped and produced 9 feature length wildlife behavior videos.  In the past 4 years he switched primarily to digital still photography of wildlife and has made over 250,000 images.  His favorite subjects are elk, bighorn sheep, grizzly bear, and deer, for the 4-legged animals.  For avian subjects, his favorites are eagles, herons, egrets, geese, tundra swans and the various duck species found in and around the Great Salt Lake.  Much of his photography takes place on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and the Farmington Bay Waterfowl Areas.  He donated many photographs to the new Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge Visitor's Center. Forty of his framed photos are current on display in the Bear River Visitor Center’s Gallery. An example of his work with bird photography may be seen at www.utahbirds.org, where he is known primarily for his awesome photos in the 3 feature articles on Bald Eagles.  He has approximately 300 photos of various bird species on that website.  To see the eagles, check out http://www.utahbirds.org/birdsofutah/PhotoIndex.html.

Ted photographs primarily in Utah for eagles, herons, ducks and other birds, and photographs larger mammals in various parts of Utah, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Colorado and New Mexico.

Ted’s wife, Cathy, has an excellent eye for framing and matting and does that portion of the business. The photographs in the Bear River Visitor Center Gallery were framed and matted by her. All framed photos at that location will be available for sale when they are taken down near the end of March. Please inquire if you are interested in any of those. Ted and Cathy grew up in Wisconsin, and have also lived in Michigan and the Black Hills of South Dakota. For the last 20 years they have lived in Layton, UT.
